The laws in Alabama are very strict. The winery must be in a "wet" city or county. You must have local, state and federal licenses and federally approved labels. But don't get discouraged, the rewards are worth the hassle. Where are you thinking of building a winery?

Hello, I have 120 perfect winegrowing acreas. We just moved from California and I thought about starting a winery on the land. Yes we live in a "dry" county. That is a problem! WHat if we grow the grapes here and actually do the fermenting process "over the line" (I am getting good at the lingo). WHere can I find the exact laws and see if we can warehouse somewhere else? Thanks, Bamaresa

Hello , I also am new to this forum.I am interested in starting a small winery . I live in a wet county .I don't have any land yet , but am looking . Ive been trying to make sence of the law and am about to loose my mind in doing so . I cant even figure out the legal definition of what a winery is in Alabama .Is there a minimum amount of land required ? Do you have to make the wine at the same location as the fruit is grown .Can you buy and sell fruit to other farmers for wine making use ? Is there a required percentage of fruit that you must grow and goes into the making of your wine ? Is there a required percentage of fruit ( ingrediants ) that must be grown in Alabama ? What about the wine testing rooms issue ?Obviously any and all information would be helpfull .
